Technical Background:
The COLD BOX Process at TRG
In the foundry industry, the PU COLD BOX process is currently the most important and most technologically advanced process for the manufacture of sand cores for serial applications which use iron and aluminium casting. The binder in the sand is aerated with aliphatic amines, which catalytically accelerate the curing of the sand core. The waste gas containing the amines is captured in a waste gas scrubber containing sulphuric acid. The amines can then be recovered from the resulting amino-sulphate solution by means of the patented TRG recycling process and used again for the PU COLD BOX process.
